About Karen Harley
For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a deep interest in plants and began growing vegetables and herbs at a young age. Since then, I’ve made my own tinctures, teas, and lotions for personal use. During my studies in Medical Herbalism at the Southern Institute of Medical Herbalism (SIMH), I developed a deeper understanding of the relationship between herbs and the individual. I really love the process of connecting medicine to the person and formulating individual remedies.
I am now based in beautiful Motueka and am welcoming new clients. The majority of the herbs I use in my practice are ones I’ve either grown myself or foraged locally in the Motueka, Nelson, and Tasman regions. I’m mindful about how much I take and where I source plants from, and I grow my herbs using organic principles to produce healthy, robust medicine. Occasionally, I may need to source herbs from a trusted supplier or fellow herbalist, but my focus is always on finding the highest quality available.
I love living in Motueka and enjoy walking and tramping and being out in our beautiful native forests.
About Herbal Medicine
Herbal medicine spans many cultures and traditions. The approach I take is based on the Western Herbal Vitalist Tradition. This type of herbal practice looks at the whole person, deeply investigating the constitution, lifestyle, diet and other factors that may contribute to the cause of illness. Herbs can help support the natural vitality of the body to heal. The herbs I give will depend on the individual. This medicine comes in the form of herbal tinctures, teas and capsules.
